We’re excited to announce that The Creswell Club will provide the musical entertainment at the 8th annual BennettStrong: Roaring 1920’s gala on Saturday, March 1 at the Philmont Country Club in Huntingdon Valley.

Jazz flourished in the 1920s and 30s; Sidney Bechet, Duke Ellington, Fats Waller, Bix Beiderbecke, and the indomitable Louis Armstrong lit up the world. But this early jazz all but disappeared with the advent of swing and bebop.

But now, trad jazz is making a comeback, and its epicenter is New York City. Enter The Creswell Club, who specialize in this music that makes life better. Their members have performed at every major venue (Lincoln Center, Town Hall, Carnegie Hall) and hole in the wall (Mona’s, Fat Cat, Radegast) in New York, and now they’re bringing their love of trad jazz to the world.

The Creswell Club is led by bassist Dan Martin, and features Betina Hershey (vocals/guitar), Nick Russo (guitar/banjo), Jay Rattman (sax/clarinet), Charlie Caranicas (trumpet) and Dan Monaghan (drums). They’ve played with Cécile McLorin, Bruce Barth, Jon Batiste, Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks, and so many others. But none of this matters when we’re playing together. What matters is the music. What matters is the moment we’re all sharing together. The Creswell Club’s goal: to set the world on fire, and start a flame in your heart.
